Terms of service — xades-open

Who we are

xades-open is operated by TrainedBooks, an independent software business in California, United States, which operates the agentwares products. It opens electronically signed files (.xades, .asice, .bdoc and .edoc) in your web browser, shows the signed documents, who signed them and when, and checks the signatures' integrity.

You can reach a human at https://agentwares.vercel.app/contact. That form is also where to send a question about a purchase, a refund request or a complaint.

Free to use, with no account

Opening, viewing, downloading and checking signed files is free and needs no account, key or signup. These terms apply from your first use.

Your files stay in your browser

The signed files you open are read and checked by code running in your browser, on your device. They are not uploaded to us or to anyone else. Nothing in these terms gives us any right to them, because we never receive them.

What a check means

It checks a signature's integrity: that the document and the signed properties have not changed since signing, that the signature verifies with the key in the certificate, and that the certificates and timestamp the file carries fit together. It does not check whether the certificate's issuer is on the EU Trusted List, or whether the certificate was revoked, so it does not say whether a signature is qualified or legally valid.

Nothing it shows is professional advice — not legal, financial or tax advice — and it is not a statement that a signature or a document is legally valid.

Payment

Some exports cost money. Each is one payment through Stripe Checkout, with the price shown before you pay. There is no subscription and nothing renews:

• €2.99 buys one stamped PDF of one signed file: the document with a note on each page and a signature-report page, re-downloadable for 30 days.
• €14.99 buys unlimited stamped PDFs of any signed files for 365 days from payment.

After payment your browser receives a token, signed by us, that unlocks the export with no account. It is kept in your browser's storage and checked by this site before each export. A one-document token is tied to that document by a code your browser derives from it; it will not open another. If you lose the token, write to us with the email address on your receipt and we will reissue it.

What we do not promise

It is provided as is. A check can be wrong, a file can be in a variant it does not read, and the site can be unavailable.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the three months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

Ending it

Stop using it whenever you like; there is no account to close. We may change or retire the tool; if we retire it, its own page will say so first, and an unlock you paid for that has time left is refunded in proportion.

Changes and disputes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and a change applies only to use and purchases after it.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States. Nothing here takes away a right the law where you live gives you as a consumer.
