What is a .xades file, and how do you open it?

A .xades file is an electronic signature in the XAdES format. Open it here: drop the file below to see the signed document and the result of checking the signature. The file is not uploaded anywhere.

Nothing is uploaded. Only this page reads the file, in your browser. We count only that a file was opened (its format and the result), never its contents or name.

Where .xades files come from

Qualified-signature software and services such as Poland's trusted-profile signature produce them. Public platforms require XAdES for XML files: Poland's e-Zamówienia accepts an XML application only with an enveloped XAdES signature (its signing instructions, version 5.3).

Extensions

  • .xades — an enveloping signature (document inside) or a detached one (document beside it).
  • .xml — an enveloped signature, inside the signed XML document.
  • A name like contract.pdf.xades tells you what is inside: here, a PDF.

Detached signatures

If the .xades file holds only the signature, the page asks for the original. Drop both files together; the document still never leaves your device.
